 | Ye Rutang (Siqin Gaowa) is an old-fashioned Chinese woman, with very little money, living in fast-paced, modern Shanghai. Her values are seriously challenged when she encounters three people: Kuan-Kuan, her young nephew, Mr Pan Zichang (Chow Yun Fat), an ageing charmer and Jin Yonghua, a homeless woman. In their different ways they try to con Mrs Ye out of her meagre finances and she undergoes a crisis of faith in human nature, culminating in falling down and breaking her leg. Reflecting on her misfortune in hospital, Mrs Ye is visited by her estranged daughter (Vicky Zhao Wei) and her whole approach to life changes in surprising ways. | |
