 | When the King of Yan is assassinated by his nephew Wu Ba, the traitor stands to inherit the throne because the king has no sons. However, his will proclaims loyal General Muyong as his successor. Realizing that only the king’s daughter, Fei’er, can unite and bring peace to the kingdom, Muyong tells the court that the king changed his will before death, anointing the princess. Fei’er reluctantly accepts, but leaves for military training before being crowned queen. Wu Ba dispatches his assassins, striking her with a poisonous dart before she is rescued by mountain hermit Duan Lanquan. She recovers under his care and is enlightened by his philosophy of peace. General Muyong leaves the capital to find the princess. Learning of his departure, the rival kingdom of Zhao takes advantage of the turmoil to invade Yan. Fei’er leaves with Muyong to join the Yan forces in battle, laying an ambush for the Zhao king. But Fei’er spares the king’s life, recalling Duan’s words of peace. After her victorious return to the capital, Fei’er decides to abdicate to return to Duan. But Wu Ba is secretly building an army to seize the throne and has dispatched his men to assassinate Fei’er... | |
