Five Star Production was founded in 1973. Today, were one of the oldest and most respected studios and distribution companies in Thailand. For four decades, Five Star has produced a large number of Thai films and continually developed the standards of local film production to the international level.

In 1977, we were the first Thai studio to build our own soundstage. In the following years, we expanded our reaches into the production of TV series and variety shows, and through these programs we launched the career of many talented young people. Especially during 1990 to 1996, we produced a number of stars who remain successful in the showbiz today. We continue to move forward, and recently we just launched two new affiliated companies: Stadio, a unit specializing in movie marketing and promotion, and Happening Films, which focuses on distributing foreign films and servicing location shooting of foreign films in Thailand.

Our steadfast vision and determination to keep improving the quality has secured the place of Five Star Production as one of the leading movie companies in Thailand. Our commitment to the development of the industry has made us a home of Thai films with a back catalogue of over 250 titles. Over 100 directors and 1,000 actors have called us their home during the past four decades.

Five Star was among the first Thai studios to gain international recognition through quality films shown at prestigious film festivals around the world. From €Khun Suek€ in 1976, to the dazzling €Tears of the Black Tiger€, Wisit Sasanatiengs film from 2001 that became the first Thai title to be picked into Canness Un Certain Regard. Another Five Stars well-known director during the 2000s is Pen-ek Ratanaruang. His €Monrak Transistor€ was invited to the Directors Fortnight in 2001, while €Ploy€ was picked into the same program in 2007.

In 2009, Pen-eks film €Nymph€ brought fame to the company again when it was shown in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes. After that, the film traveled to over 100 festivals around the world.

In the same year, €Slice€, a gripping psycho-thriller by Kongkiat Komesiri (who also made €Muay Thai Chaiya€ and €Art of the Devil€) was nominated for 14 Subannahongsa Awards (the Thai equivalent of the Oscars) from the total of 16 categories. The film was also invited to a dozen film festivals, including Rotterdam and Sitges.

In 2010, Five Star launched Thailands biggest film of the year. The super-hero blockbuster €The Red Eagle€, starring Ananda Everingham as the ruthless vigilante, was the latest film by Wisit Sasanatieng, well-known internationally for his unique vision in films such as €Tears of the Black Tiger€, €Citizen Dog€, and €The Unseeable€.

In 2012, Five Star will confirm the status of the industrys pioneer with €407 Dark Flight 3D€, Thailands first 3D horror movie from the team who made €Art of the Devil€ into an international hit. €Dark Flight€ promises to be the most frightening cinematic experience of the year.

Also in 2012, the company will release €Tai€, a spectacular action fantasy that will feature the most exciting Muay Thai sequence the audience will ever see.
