Based on one of Thailand’s most famous erotic novels, “Jan Dara” tells the story of an aristocratic family cursed by carnal obsession and sexual perversity.
The year is 1930s, and the turbulence of Siamese politics provides the backdrop of this powerful drama. Jan Dara is a teenage boy who grows up in the house of Luang Wisnan, the sadistic father who despises him for being the cause of his mother’s death. Wisnan is a man who enjoys sexual excess, and Jan grows up in a hothouse of erotic activities. His relationships with women – from his stepmother, Wad, and Wisnan’s beautiful lover, Boonlueng – are characterised by deep longing and inexplicable desires. Jan falls in love with Hyacinth, a girl as pure as a white cloth, but the violent and depraved atmosphere in which he’s grown up leaves a mark that will affect him throughout his life
