The idyllic, Norfolk coastal village of Happisburgh was one of the first known human settlements in northern Europe. Having survived here for over 800,000 years, humans now face an existential threat due to rapid coastal erosion. ’After the Tide’ explores the stark choice facing communities: either leave, or stay. Nearing her eighties, grandmother, Bryony Nierop-Reading, finds herself as a late-life eco-warrior leading the campaign for action at Happisburgh. As the world’s coastlines crumble under climate change and rising sea levels, Bryony’s question to those who say no action is needed, is: “if not now, when?”
