Three survivors of an alien attack have taken refuge in the wreckage of their starship: PETERSON, the ship’s female pilot, the CHIEF a weathered veteran and KERRY, and a telekinetic teenage Adept with genetically enhanced psychic abilities. But their safe haven is falling apart as the ship’s systems fail.

Their haven is breached by the Rippers. The Chief sacrifices himself to help Peterson and Kerry escape. But as they flee, Peterson learns that Kerry’s genetically enhanced abilities are linked to mankind’s war with the Rippers.

Kerry has the potential to become a monster, a genetically engineered killing machine driven by rage. And the virus that created her has infected Peterson.
Ultimately, Peterson and Kerry are cornered by the alien Rippers, forcing Peterson to undergo the transformation she has feared. But it is Kerry with her genetically modified abilities who becomes something lethal beyond measure and defeats Rippers.
But because Kerry has grown from what she has learned from Peterson and the Chief, she is able to control and harness her abilities. She takes Peterson and the Chief ,whose own transformation has allowed him to survive, and uses the last escape pod to begin a new life
