Synopsis

When gregariously immature Brian Bithers gets kicked out of a professional umpire training academy for sticking to his unconventional philosophy that the “umpire IS the show”, he moves to the town of Beakersfield, to work at the grocery store and become their little league’s entertaining, volunteer ump– hoping to impress legendary umpire Sam Addelman (who’s grandson plays in the league) with his creative strike calls and finally make it to the majors. Brian’s life changes when he meets lovable loser Laurie, after inadvertently stepping into a family conflict during a game involving her son Dylan and her ex-husband and the ultra competitive little league manager, Rex. As Brian and Laurie continue to spend time together, a bond begins to form with Dylan. Rex grows jealous of Brian’s time with Laurie and conspires with Colby (the pushover head of the Baseball association) to have Brian removed from the league, complicating Brian’s chances of ever living his dream.

UMPY is a screwball, feel good comedy that features the underdog’s journey of HAPPY GILMORE & PAUL BLART: MALL COP, the silliness and heart of HOT ROD and the rag-tag comedic cast of BAD NEWS BEARS. This sports comedy presents an opportunity to stunt cast cameos from a variety of notable sports personalities and fans of baseball, including members of the Toronto Blue Jays as well as Rush frontman (and Blue Jays season ticket holder) Geddy Lee.
