Donnie is a young solenodon from Cuba, and he’s on a mission. After losing his best friend, he decides now is the time to stand up and be counted – to save himself and his species from the edge of extinction. And he thinks he’s got a way to do just that! Become famous! Fame gives you everything you need to survive: safety, security, all the food you can eat. And the best part? Humans stop trying to extinct you!
Donnie’s is fixated on Peng the Panda. Peng is the world’s most famous panda – everybody loves Peng – animals and humans alike. He’s all over social media. He’s so charismatic. He’s the poster-animal of endangered species. His sweet face is everywhere! Donnie’s plan is to kidnap Peng and replace him as the most famous animal on the planet… thus ensuring his survival and that of solenodons.
Donnie pulls together a crew of 6 other endangered animals and sets out on his mission. Surprisingly, he pulls it off! They kidnap Peng! This is due in large part to two factors: 1) Donnie has a secret benefactor who is seemingly helping, and 2) Peng actually assists with his own kidnapping! Peng loves his life and thinks humans are great, but he’s lonely; he’s a bit isolated by his fame. He’s so excited to make new friends like Donnie and go on this adventure.
However, things take a turn for the worse when the secret benefactor reveals he has tricked Donnie, putting him, his crew and Peng the Panda in dire straits. Can Donnie and his mission possible crew get back on their feet and save Peng from being kidnapped AGAIN?
Along the way, Donnie will have to learn an important lesson about himself on his mission to become notorious. He will discover that there’s more to life than becoming the next poster animal even if it's a question of life and death. You can’t give up on who you really are and pretend to be someone you’re not. By learning this lesson, Donnie might just surprise himself by saving far more species than he even imagined possible.
