Sinossi

On the night of 31 October 1926, as a gesture of reprisal for the failed attempt on Mussolini in Bologna, Emilio Lussu's home in Cagliari was attacked by squadrists. After an assault that lasted more than an hour on the building in which Lussu was barricaded, Battista Porrà, a young fascist from Cagliari, was killed in an attempt to enter Lussu's flat by a pistol shot fired by the politician himself. Late at night Lussu was arrested, but between 22 and 23 October 1927, thanks to the courage of the judges who recognised the circumstance of legitimate defence, he was acquitted. The film retraces the difficult moments that lead Judge Marras and his collaborators to pass the sentence of his acquittal from the charge of manslaughter, despite strong external pressure from the government and the Duce
