Sinossi

Based on an epic true story, U.S Marine veteran John Keller is barely getting by with his dog and tortured memories of Iraq when Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans. Gruff and despondent, he would rather stay holed up in his apartment. But then the levees breach and 80% of the city is underwater. Outsiders, predominantly low-income and Black citizens, arrive seeking refuge at the predominantly White residential building, American Can Apartments (aka “The Can”). With each passing day and no rescue in sight, he witnesses the growing pressure of racial tension and injustices befall the city seep into The Can. There is a new war... a protest happening that’s out of his control. Who can he trust? Us vs. Them, The Have vs. The Have Nots, Black vs. White. The clock is ticking towards violence or death; and Keller, fearing for his sanity, does just enough to not engage. Armed with military tact, he knows he is the only one who can rescue both the desperate outsiders who brave the heat and hunger on the roof and the Elderly Residents who are helpless and alone in the dark. Yet he does not know how much of himself he can sacrifice without losing it all. This is a story about an unbreakable human spirit in the face of government failure, environmental catastrophe, and systemic racism. A story that must be seen to be believed. A story to ignite hope and unite hearts. A story of a Black Man, a Hero. This is The American Can.
