MPI Original Films is a subsidiary of the Moving Picture Institute—a production company and talent incubator that creates high-impact films designed to entertain, inspire, and educate audiences with captivating stories about human freedom.
MPI’s team of producers have developed and produced of a wide-range of content from award-winning streaming series to feature documentaries, short films, and critically acclaimed feature narratives. Their recent film Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game starring Mike Faist (BAFTA-nominated) is currently available on streaming platforms including Hulu, and was hailed by New Yorker critic Richard Brody as “better than all ten of [last year’s] Best Picture nominees” and listed the film among the top 10 Best Movies of 2023.
MPI’s team also produced Miss Virginia starring Uzo Aduba (Emmy® winner) and Matthew Modine (Emmy® nominee); Freedom Hair written and directed by Oscar-nominated Dianne Houston; the MPI Original and BET Original Film Kemba starring Nesta Cooper, Siddiq Saunderson, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Michelle Hurd; the feature-length documentary Project Home (Official Selection Heartland International Film Festival), the digital series We’re Doing Good (Official Selection SXSW), and short films like A Piece of Cake (Official Selection Tribeca Film Festival, Nominated for Best Narrative Short). Lana and Rob also served as co-executive producers on the feature documentary The Dissident (Official Selection Sundance Film Festival, BAFTA-nominated).
