An American bachelor learns that a former girlfriend gave birth to his son 20 years ago and the boy has recently died in a car accident. Upon his arrival to Canada for his son’s funeral, he finds himself a "fish out of water" evaluating his life choices while getting to know his dead son vicariously from the people who were much closer to the boy than he could ever be.
