Lillian Cooper (Melissa Leo) is a theater actress whose son, a famous rock star, suddenly dies mysteriously just days after returning from jail. When the investigating officer rules the cause of death an accidental overdose, Lillian can’t accept it. She conducts her own investigation which leads her into the her son’s New York City rock scene, and finally to an unlikely alliance with the glamorous photographer Taz (Thorne), who was also her son's former drug dealer.
