We are on the tail end of a remarkable rebound in wildlife numbers from a devastating loss and with it, new challenges are arising for the stewards of the land: ranchers.

Almost two-thirds of land in the US is in private hands, which means landowners are of enormous importance to the natural world. Nowhere is this more true than in Montana. With a majority of that land being ranch and farm, working ranchlands provide critical habitat for wildlife. But coexistence is not easy. And even if it were, outside forces are encroaching that can fragment and destroy their way of life.

Through the lived experience of American ranchers, insight from cutting-edge science and historical perspective, this documentary will explore the complex dynamics between those that live off the land - human and non-human - and the challenges they face as they work towards a common goal: to protect that which they love.
